pause/still: take a break to make a new start
alissa j. is a communicator of ideas through print design & visual arts. Her designs are simple, feminine, and delicate; with an underlying desire to communicate optimism and creativity.
alissa is interested in exploring culture & language. She is strongly connected to East Asian culture and practices Japanese calligraphy (書道) as well as studying the language.
With an Arts & Culture Outreach residency in Hong Kong in February 2010, alissa taught zine workshops and co-founded a collaborative subculture documentation platform about zines as Handroll with two Hong Kong artists.
She was a longtime member of the Independent Publishing Resource Center in Portland, Oregon and after some time near Los Angeles, California, alissa is living in Japan again.
Current projects include a photo series of abandoned homes and a collection of mixed language Engrish spoken between a couple. Please contact alissa for information about potential zine workshops or collaborations in the Fukuoka area.
